Neill Public Library has received a $10,000 grant from The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to enhance and promote readers’ advisory services in our community. “Readers’ advisory” is a keystone service in public libraries that occurs any time a patron consults with library staff or with online resources to help find a book or other material that he or she would enjoy.
The goal of this grant project is to improve Neill Public Library’s readers’ advisory services, both in person and online. We will expand the readers’ advisory services currently offered to our community and will provide library staff with the most complete readers’ advisory training. Key components for 2011 include the purchase of two new online resources, scheduled presentations with renowned author and literary advocate Nancy Pearl, and a regional readers’ advisory summit with local libraries.
