Conversation with Gary Ferguson: Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 pm

As part of the Palouse-area community Everybody Reads program (www.everybody-reads.org), Neill Public Library and the Washington State University Libraries will be sponsoring a public lecture by Gary Ferguson, co-author of Decade of the Wolf: Returning the Wild to Yellowstone on Friday November 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Neill Public Library in downtown Pullman.

Decade of the Wolf is the fascinating story of the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone National Park in the mid 1990s. Ferguson and his co-author, biologist Douglas W. Smith, describes this successful conservation project ten years after it began, telling the stories of the wolves as well as of the scientists and others who have been monitoring them ever since. Yellowstone has changed since the reintroduction of wolves; Douglas Smith notes that, "wolves are fast becoming to Yellowstone what water is to the Everglades." With its true-life story and vivid descriptions, Decade of the Wolf was selected as the 2006 Montana Book of the Year, and as the subject of the 2008 Palouse-area Everybody Reads program.

The Everybody Reads program is provided by local libraries in the Palouse region and corporate sponsors Confluence Press, the Washington State Library, the Lewiston Morning Tribune, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, FishHawk Guides, the (WSU) Bookie, Kling’s Stationary, and Book People of Moscow.

Everybody Reads asks the question, “What if everybody read the same book?” What if those readers had multiple opportunities, both formal and informal, to talk to each other about the book? What if a wide variety of agencies, both public and private, came together to sponsor such a region-wide effort, thus declaring with one voice that reading is not only a source of individual pleasure, but a tool for community-building? What if the author came to our community to join in the discussion?
