Eclipse@Neill Public Library

Thanks to Pullman city councilor Nathan Weller, Neill Public Library had NASA certified eclipse glasses to give away!  The library took a waitlist for glasses, and after filling the waitlist of nearly 250 pairs packaged in a safety information packet, there were over 150 remaining glasses to be distributed on a first come, first served basis beginning at 1pm today. A long line formed shortly after the library opened at noon, and when distribution began at 1, it took only 14 minutes for the glasses to dissappear.

Want to watch the eclipse from indoors?  Join us August 21 at 9am in the Hecht meeting room for live streaming of the eclipse from the NASA website!  We’ll project video feed onto a big screen for maximum viewing pleasure.  This show will cover the path of totality the eclipse will take from Oregon to South Carolina. The program will feature views from NASA research aircraft, high-altitude balloons, satellites and specially-modified telescopes. It also will include live reports from Charleston, as well as from Salem, Oregon; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Beatrice, Nebraska; Jefferson City, Missouri; Carbondale, Illinois; Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Clarksville, Tennessee.

Special evening with local author Kayla Dawn Thomas

Join us for a special evening with local author Kayla Dawn Thomas as she discusses the publication of her debut novel Swept Up, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in the Hecht meeting room at Neill Public Library, 210 N. Grand Avenue, Pulllman, WA 99163.  Kayla will review the self-publishing process with all its ups and downs, giving insight on what she’s learned along the way.

Kayla has been a storyteller all of her life. Before she knew how to write, she told stories to a jump rope. Thankfully that stage ended once she knew how to work a pencil. Now she is blessed to be able to write full time. Swept Up is her debut novel, and she can’t wait to share all of the other stories and characters she has stored in her head.

"A Bird's Eye View" with Rick Thompson

Rick Thompson will give his presentation “A Bird’s-Eye View of the Lake Missoula Floods” beginning at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, July 9th. This library event will be held at the RTOP Theatre, 122 N Grand Avenue, in Pullman.

Rick, president of the Lower Columbia Chapter of the Ice Age Flood Institute, uniquely combines his expertise on the path of the flood with his talent of mapping, illustrating, and conveying the information in an artistic form that is revealing and easily understood.  This presentation focuses on the Lake Missoula Floods, which shaped much of the region, from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast.  These catastrophic floods pushed 500 cubic miles of water, ice, and mud across Eastern Washington, altering land formations and leaving behind erratics throughout the region.  Rick will share photos from his flights over the region, charting the paths of these floods.

Neill Public Library thanks Regional Theatre of the Palouse for their partnership in this event.

To read this book is to learn again how to listen, how to forgive, and ultimately, how to love life that is sometimes as cruel as it is beautiful.”—Kathleen Dean Moore, author, Wild Comfort
