Donations, Donations, Donations!!!

As you can see from the picture (click for enlarged view) at the top of this post, I have recently compiled the stats for 2008 on Donated Items at Neill Public Library. Last year the library had over 14,800 items donated to us. These items ranged from books, to magazines, to items in various media formats. This total includes:
  • 2443 paperback books which went back out into the community as part of our Free Paperbacks program.
  • 742 books that went to the Books for Prisoners program last spring.
  • 1580 books that went to a program called Better World Books which takes discarded books and utilizes them around the world where books are in demand!
  • 911 items that went to the Friends of Neill Public Library Book Sale.
Needless to say donations at times can be an almost overwhelming job to keep up. Many thanks to the various staff members who assist in this endeavor throughout the year and of course to all the patrons who place on average forty items a day into the donation bin. It is a very time consuming process to sort, process, and replace donations, but one that is well worth the trouble! As a reminder, we do not take textbooks or VHS tapes as donations, so you will have to find somewhere else for those particular treasures.
