Join us on Saturday, October 2nd at 2 p.m. in the Library’s Heritage Addition, where Martha Mullen will be discussing her book, Reflections on the Road: A Journey Through Whitman County Past and Present.
Martha (Marty) Mullen grew up in Texas but has lived in Pullman, Washington for more than 40 years. Her introduction to Whitman County’s rural roads came when she traveled throughout the county as a caseworker for the Department of Social and Health Services during her first years in southeastern Washington. Since retiring from Washington State University after 31 years on the faculty of the Division of Student Affairs, she has spent many delightful hours retracing her old routes, exploring other places that once were just names on a Whitman County map, and meeting some of the people for whom the roads were named.
The author’s presentation will include a slideshow of local sites with a particular focus on the area’s railways. The program promises to be an exciting adventure for anyone interested in local history.
