National Geographic Virtual Library is now available through NPL! "As journalism's most trusted name in exploration and discovery, National Geographic Virtual Library (NGVL)
supports a range of research needs, from high school homework to
background for recreational travelers. NGVL brings the National
Geographic Society to the library in a cross-searchable platform that
fits the way today's students and patrons conduct their research."
Included in our subscription is access to the NGVL Archive (including all issues from 1888-1994), Current issues (1995-current), and "People, Animals, and the World," a collection of National Geographic's maps, charts, books, and films.
You can even save articles and searches-- once inside the database, create an account linked to your email address to add tags to articles, save searches or view previous searches, and bookmark articles. Creating an account is not necessary to use the database: after accessing the database with your library card, you can still search and browse all content, email articles, print, and create citations.
A great resource for students, travelers, and curious readers, National Geographic Virtual Library has all the colorful appeal of the print-- and won't take up 15 shelves to store. Speaking of storing, do you have a PDF-friendly eReader, smartphone, or laptop? Print articles to a PDF-writer and save them to read in places with no wi-fi.
Explore our new database through our Online Resources page. All databases can be accessed from home-- you just need your library card! Stop by or email the Information Desk
