First, we pulled today from among entries for the first Weekly Winner in the Adult Summer Reading Program. The winner has been notified via email. Enter more frequently to increase your chances of winning! All weekly winners will have a choice of a book from the cart, pictured here below. Decorated with a volcano to tie in with the adult theme of "Groundbreaking Reads," this book cart was created by some of our very talented and artistic staff.
"Dig Beneath the Surface of a Book and find a Groundbreaking Adventure" encourages the display at the Summer Reading Program Registration table. Bringing all components and ages of the Summer Reading Program into one place for registration, information, and prize entry, the Registration table is decorated to tie in with all three themes: "Dig Into Reading," "Beneath the Surface," and "Groundbreaking Reads." Below, two action figures scale a mountain of books. These eye-catching displays were created by one of our amazing Friends of Neill Public Library members.
This morning we noticed that one of the light poles in the parking lot had been yarn bombed! Also called yarn storming, graffiti knitting, guerrilla knitting, and urban knitting, yarn bombing is a type of non-permanent street art, typically created as a way of reclaiming sterile or cold public spaces. (We don't consider the Library cold or sterile-- and hope you don't either-- but we won't take it personally if you think that way about our light post.) Below, Randi, our Technical Services supervisor, poses with the now-warmer lamp post before getting ready for today's program, Good Yarns. We are truly stumped as to the artist behind this colorful piece.
Not only is now a great time to find something interesting to do and something interesting to read at the library, it seems that now is a great time to find something interesting to see.
