Are you a Star Wars fan?

Where were you on May 25, 1977? If you're like legions of other Luke Skywalker fans, you were in line, waiting for the first Star Wars movie to be released by Twentieth Century Fox Studios.  Who could have predicted thirty-seven years ago what a cultural phenomenon and mega-box office success it would all be and still is?  I doubt that even George Lucas himself could have imagined such an empire (pun intended).

Fans have their favorite Star Wars movie, characters and scenes.  There are Star Wars retreats, celebrations, parties, workshops, galas and productions around the world on a regular basis.  Studies  indicate the musical score from the original Star Wars movie is one of the most recognizable pieces of music in the world! That's deserving of a congratulatory "Argh" from Chewbacca to John Williams, composer of the musical scores for all six of the films.

Star Wars fans of all ages can head to Neill Library and find something to satisfy their Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader or Princess Leia fix.  There are Star Wars books in the adult and juvenile collections. There are DVDs and music CDs too.  And if that' not enough, head to the teen section and check out Star Wars Origami by Chris Alexander and make your own Star Wars folding paper fun.

So, as legions of C3PO and R2D2 fans celebrate Stars Wars Day this month, it seems only appropriate to say "may the force be with you" ... as you head to NPL to get your Jedi goodies!

Children's Librarian
