A Little Bit of the Green

Today, March 17th, is known in many lands as St. Patrick's Day. It's a day celebrated by many people wearing green, eating corned beef and cabbage, sporting shamrocks, and raising a glass in toast with friends.

Who exactly is Saint Patrick you ask?  Saint Patrick is known as the Patron Saint of Ireland, and is credited with driving all of the snakes out of Ireland.  However, Saint Patrick wasn't Irish, and there were no snakes in Ireland.

To learn more about Saint Patrick come down to Neill Public Library and check out one of the books:  Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by dePaola, Saint Patrick and the Peddler by Hodges, Saint Patrick by Tompert and St. Patrick of Ireland: a biography by Freeman.

And for all of you a toast for St. Patrick's day "May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends beneath it never fall out".
